Hi, Harry,
Thanks for your note. I’d missed your earlier posts on the King/Clay Bible. I don’t think it’s very likely that two different Henry Clays were born on the same day (the Henry I have born in 1711, also had a birthday of 9/3. However the list of associated names doesn’t match exactly with the names you posted. Here are the close relatives of Henry (b. 1711), as listed in "Our Clay Family Heritage," the genealogy book published for the Clay Family Gathering in Williamsburg, VA, June 2001. Note: this is a compendium of mostly secondary sources and information from it needs to be verified.
Henry Clay m. Mary Mitchell. Issue:
William Mitchell Clay Sr. b 1710
Henry Clay b 1711
Rev Charles Clay b 1/31/1715-16
Martha Clay b @1715
John Clay b 1718
Amey Clay b 1720
Mary Clay b 1722
Henry, who was b. 1711, m. Lucy Green. Issue:
Henry Clay MD b 1736
Charles Clay - said to have been murdered; left 2 daughters
Samuel Clay moved to North Carolina
Thomas Clay b 1/1745-46
Abia Clay
Marston Clay b bef 1753
Rebecca Clay
John Clay - captain in Revolutionary War
Elijah Clay
Lucy Clay
I can’t quite make the leap to Missouri with you. Can you work from the Bible back? I know it’s some work, but would you consider posting all the Clay names and dates? That surely would help someone help you ID these people.
Thanks,
Ned
