I don't know if this helps at all - - - "Scots Kith & Kin - A Guide to the Clans & Surnames of Scotland"(Harper Collins)....I picked it up at a Celtic Festival and it has alot of info (in general) in it. It's a small paperback.I have a relative who visited Scotland years ago and was told that the Clinkscales might have shared a tartan with another family (clan?).The book states that out of more than 16,000 Scottish surnames, "fewer than 3,000 of these are of Highland origin and associated with clans". The Clinkscales name is in it but specific info is scant. The tartans seem to be a Highland thing & I'm not sure how Highland the Clinkscales were. I haven't looked into it and obviously don't know much - thought I'd pass this little bit along in case it helps at all.If you have any Celtic/Scottish groups in your vicinity, perhaps they can help.
