I have traced the connection between Joseph Keedy and the "Guting" surname all the way back to 1742. It appears that Johann Heinrich Gutting(senior) and his son Johann Heinrich Gutting,(Jr) (born 1742) emigrated from Germany in 1752 aboard the ship Halifax. Johann (senior) died en route, and his son spoke no english, nor did he have papers, so when the Halifax arrived in Philadelphia on September 23,1752 the emigration officials, based on Johann Junior's pronunciation, copied his name as Johann Henry Keedy in the emigration records. I am not sure how, when and why he setteled in Washington County, but he did, and married Barbara Stinnie. They had 3 children Daniel , Jacob, and Henry.Daniel in turn married Mary Fiery, and they too had 3 children: John, Elizabeth and Daniel Jr. who married Elizabeth Sophia Miller, They had 8 children, one of which was Joseph who married Sophia Clopper.I hope this helps.
