Hi Linda,

We both may be in luck.

In the 1861 Port Hope, Ontario census

John Clouston Baptist b. Scotland ca 1795 Chairmaker (my gggrandfather)
JaneRoman Catholic
ThomasRC b. ca 1833 in Ontario,Chairmaker (my ggrandfather)

John most likely came from Orkney Island in Scotland in the employ of the Hudson Bay Co.

Also listed in that census

John Clouston RC age 37 b. Ontario, Chairmaker
Penelope RCage 38 b. Ireland
Jane RC age 16
John RC age 14
Mary A. RC age 12
ThomasRC age 10
Margaret RC age 8
George RC age 5

Clearly the two families were related. This is based on the same location, occupation, religion and the naming sequence of the children.Do you think this is your Mary A.?From the 1871 census it appears that the only one left in Ontario is my ggrandfather and I have searched for the whereabouts of the others.Do you have any other info on Mary A. and her sibs; where she went, died etc.Any living relatives etc.Hope to hear from you.

Jim Dillon
