Hi Paul
I also have a copy of a Clunes family tree, which was sent to me by Alistair Gordon of London a couple of years ago.I will send you a copy if you like, just let me know, I can email it as a Word Document attachment, or post it if you send your postal address.
I am not sure if the tree I have actually relates to my Clunes. It starts with an Archibald Clunace 1338, and among others it includes reference to John Clunes, son of Alex of Neilstron, and his decendents; one of whom is a grandson Hugh 1811 Kinnauld.Any connection?According to Reverand Donald Sage in his book 'Memorabillia Domestica; or Parish life in the North of Scotland', John Clunes (cc1660) moved to Sutherlandshire, after the sale of his property in the Black Isle of Ross-Shire, became the Earl of Sutherland's factor, and resided in the castle of Crackaig. If you haven't seen a copy of this book, it may hold some interest for you, as it gives quite a bit of information about the Clunes family and their aquaintences scattered throughout, although I found most in the chapter dealing with the 1805-1809 era.
I am trying to find a William Clunes.I have copies of his enlistment record into the 93rd Sutherland Highlanders Glasgow 1830, and a copy of his Convict Indent Papers when he arrived in Australia after Court Martial in Toronto Canada 1839.These papers indicate William was born around 1811 in Loth Sutherland, and on a couple of his children's birth certificates he gives his place of birth as Crackaig (hence the connection to the tree.Slim I know, but better than nothing).I have been unable to locate any record of his birth and do not know who his parents were.
William Clunes is my husbands g.g.grandfather.You mentioned in your message you have found gravestones of Clunas without links, if you are able to connect these to my William, or add any information, or give any clues I'd be very greatful.
I look forward to hearing from you
Yvonne Clunes
