Wayne, Thanks for you information? I would love to see the "Colonail Willimsburg Archological Report titled "The Bates Site Investigation of a Quaker Merchant". Do you have a copy?

George Bates (1625-1677) md Mary Smith, the dau of James Smith
John Bates (1655-1720) md Elizabeth Daniel (or Hanna Tindall).
John Bates (1685-1723) md Susannah Fleming (c.1685-1757), the dau of Col Charles Fleming (c. 1660-1721) and Susannah Tarleton (c. 1665-?), the dau of Stephen Tarleton (c. 1630-1687).

Anne Bates (c. 1749-?) md John Greenwood (1747- 1796).
I am aware that some genealogist say there is no proof of a relationship between Robert Bate (c. 1540-?)and John Bate (1598- 1666) but I prefer to leave them on my chart until there is proof that they are not related. I have taken both the Fleming, Mallory, Bates, back to England. All three lines trace back to Royalty and to William the Conqueror. If any one proves they are not kin I will remove them. All three lines have similar ancestors in England. I am know expert, but my information was given to me by a Professor of History at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Tx, Bascom Hayes. He and his mother had written a book on my Lawless/Loyless family. I have lost contact with him but know he put a tremendous amount of work in his research.
I know that Thomas, and Henry Batte were first cousins of Roger Mallory, and Thomas Mallory. They were the sons of John Batte, Lord of the Manor of Okewell County, Yorkshire, and his wife Martha Catherine Mallory, the daughter of Dean Thomas Mallory, and his wife, Elizabeth Vaugh, of Cheshire , who was the aunt of Roger Mallory, and sister of the Rev. Phillip Mallory, who's wife was Catherine Batte, the dau of Robert Batte, Vice Master of University College, Oxford, and sister of John Batte who married Martha Mallory.
