To our surprise, our LAWSON male cousin's ydna test for the Lawson project just come back matching for COCKERHAM instead of Lawson. According to the tests, the "non paternity event" happened 8 - 12 generations ago. The dna results indicate that we're probably descendants of the William Cockerham and Em Moore of Barbados line.
Our Lawson brick wall was in Union County, SC. Most recent verified Lawson was William Riley Lawson, b. Union County SC in 1833 and migrated to Itawamba County, MS in 1853. He married Mary Ann Bellew (Belue) from Union Co. SC.We believe that his father or grandfather was a Cockerham that took the Lawson name. Our current working theory is that Daniel Cockerham (1720- 1772) who married Frances (surname?), and 2nd wife Mary Chandler may be our William Riley Lawson's grandparents.
A related line of Cockerhams migrated to Kentucky (dna match).
Any Lawson links to your Cockerham/Cochran line would be appreciated. (The names William, Riley, John, Joseph, and Spencer are used down our Lawson generations).
