This Bible was owned by John Hanson Thomas Cockey, son of John Cockey and his wife, Chloe (Cromwell) Cockey. The Title Page to the Bible has written in pencil, "J.H.T. Cockey, Oct. 1834 Bloomfield. On another page, which had the names and order of the books of the old and new testaments,was written by pen in cursive: "John Cockey, Bloomfield, Fredk. Co. Md.
The Bible was published at Philadelphia for "BERRIMAN & CO." by Jacob R. Berriman, MDCCXDVI (1796).
The "FAMILY RECORD" was written in beautiful, artistic cursive writing with a pen with an extremely small point, producing extremely fine lines within the cursive writing. It was located on the page following the last book of the Old Testament - Malachi.

Departed this Life, Elizabeth Cockey, wife of John cockey, on Tuesday morning the 11 th of December at one quarter before 5 o'clock in the morning age 56 years. 10 months and 27 days 1827.
Died, in Baltimore at 10 o'clock at night, on Saturday the 27th May 1848, John Cockey Esq. Of Bloomfield; aged 75 years, 6 months, and 20 days.
The following information is transcribed from the Bible of John Cockey. It was located at the close of the Apocryphal Book of II MACABEES and before the title page to the "NEW TEFTAMENT":
"Record of the Family of Capt. John Cockey (the grandson of John Cockey the elder and wife, son of William Cockey and Constant Ashman his wife.) Capt. John Cockey and Chloe Cromwell were (may have been altered later from "was") married on the 26th of May 1765 and had ifsue,

John Cockey the elder, was one of the Justices for Baltimore County in 1732 - and also one of the Commifsioners in the same year for laying off into Lots Grat part of the city lying east of the Falls.-- (See Griffith's Annals of Baltimore.).
Capt John cockey was one of the "Committee of Observation for Baltimore County" in 1775 whose powers extended to the general police, and local government of the county" – He also commanded one of the five companies of "Minute Men" which Baltimore County was required to raise, and who were required to hold themselves in readinefs for service, at a minute's notice. Chloe Cockey wife of John was Born, May 12th 1746. Departed this life on September 16th 1823 aged 77 years 4 mo. & 4 days. In margin in what may have been different handwriting, further identifying Chloe Cockey was written: " Daughter of Joseph Cromwell & Comfort – his wife."
Elizabeth Cockey (marginal handwriting further described her as +"Daughter of Paul & Margaret Lantzinger of Lancaster, Penn = sylvania."), wife of John Cockey, was born January 14th, 1771 Departed this life, Decr. 11th, 1827, aged 56 years, 10 months & 27 days.
John Cockey (of Bloomfield) - marginal writing further described: "Son of John and Chloe Cockey" - was born in Baltimore County, MD. November 7th 1772 - Died 27th May, 1848. (Aged 75 years - 6 Monhs. & 20 days,) while on a visit to Baltimore.
