I was going through the postings and saw yours. I am sorry that I did not respond earlier as I have only recently come back from holiday.
Let me introduce myself, I am Brad Lawrence, by all accounts one of the many cousins that we both have in the Cockey family. I am related to the Cockey family through my mother her grandmother was Achsah Cockey-Parrish, daughter of Sterling Cockey.
I do not by any means call myself expert on the family, I leave that title to our mutual cousin, Joshua F Cockey of B.He is much older than I and has acquired a plethora of information on the family. As a matter of fact, you could say that he is our current head of the family.
I have looked through the family records that I have to find information on your branch. Now do not completely quote me on this, you will need to do a little research to verify this as I am not aware of the specifics of your bracnh of the family. Our closest common ancestor looks to be Thomas Cockey of John. He was born 1724 and married Prudence Gill. They had 8 children of which I believe you descend from their son Charles, born 1762. He married his cousin Urath, and died in 1823. His son Edward Augustus was born in the 1780's and recieved the bulk of his estate. Edward married a cousin from his mothers' family, Urath Owings in 1824, they had 5 children. Their eldest son Charles, born 1829, married Susanna Brown. Charles had been arrested in 1864 as a Confederate sypathiser, he was held in prison for a year before recieveing a Presidential pardon. He dies in 1917. Now this is where we go into the land of the unknown. I do not have the names of Charles children, however it was very common in the family to name one of your sons after your father. So, Charles if he did have a son would probably have named him Edward (this would have been Edward Cockey I), and if he had a son he could have named one of them also Edward (Edward Cockey II). With the date of your grandfathers birth as 1913 itis definitely mathematically possible. However, please do not take what I say as truth. You must research this to verify it,but at least it might be some help. Please contact me if you would like any further information on the family.
