There is a photo of a beautiful, signed, property document dated 15 April 1877 on website http://www.familychest.co.uk/default.htmhttp://www.familychest.co.uk/default.htm (use surname search) which relates to those named below:
Benjamin Smith of Aslackby, in the County of Lincoln. Grazier.
Thomas Cocks late of Donington, Lincolnshire, Farmer.
George Barnsdale Cocks late of 20 Budge Row, Cannon Street, City of London, now of Donington, Lincolnshire. Merchant.
William Cocks late of Donington, Lincolnshire and now of Monks Hall, Parish of Gosberton, Lincolnshire. Nurseryman and Seedsman.
The recitals begin in 1869 with Thomas Cocks mortgaging property in Gosberton, Lincolnshire to Benjamin Smith for £10,000. Then in 1875 George and William Cocks agreed to buy the property from Thomas Cocks for £18,000, but George Cocks has since pulled out of that agreement, Accordingly, William Cocks is now buying the property for £18,000 of which £10,000 goes direct to Benjamin Smith to pay off the mortgage.
The property consists of:
1. A capital messuage (which means Manor House) called Monks Hall.
2. 145 acres of arable land, pasture and meadow Quadring hundred in the parishes of Gosberton and Quadring.
3. Various other smaller parcels of land which bring the total area to 168 acres.
