Hi, my name is also Coenen. I'm from the south of The Netherlands. Especialy in this part of the country and in Germany Coenen is a common name. My father once told my about a man, supposedly a distant relative, was doing research after the Coenen family in the south of The Netherlands. As far as he could find our ancestors were gypsies from the Balkan-area (Serbia, Bulgary, Rumenia etc.) who fled away a few hundred years ago in north-west directions. They came through Austria, Bayern (South of Germany) en Switserland and most of them didn't travel any further then the south of Holland (Limburg and Noord-Brabant). The name Coenen is probably a sort of corruption of a gypsy word. The looks of these people are also a little south-european (dark/black hair, dark eyes, big eyebrowse and big, flappy ears, I'm very lucky to have a mother with extremely small ears).
