There is some research available on this family from Dana Ann Mireles in CA.I can send you her last known address (Dec., 1999) via e-mail if you want it.
She presented a paper to Coffey Cousins' newsletter at that time entitled "Another View on the Maiden Name of Elizabeth Wife of Salathiel Coffey."It is quite lengthy, and not something I can re-type and send.I'm certain that she would be agreeable to sharing with you should you contact her.
A second alternative is to contact the newsletter editor, Bonnie Culley (firstname.lastname@example.org) and ask for a copy of the appropriate issue (Issue No. 77).She charges a nominal fee which I believe is around $2 for copying and postage.
Briefly, in a section of her paper entitled Elizabeth Coffee's Maiden Name, she writes this:"The court document that establishes Elizabeth Coffeys (sic) maiden name is also found in Deed Book B of Adair Co., KY.It reads as follows: 'whereas by the will of the late Benjamin Franklin of Albemarle County State Virginia we the heirs of the late Elizabeth Coffee of Adair County State of Kentucky are entitled to one third part of the above mentioned Benjamin Franklin's Estate now in the hands of James & William Sudduth as executors of the late Patience Suddeth decd. formerly Patience Franklin Wife of the said Benjamin we the underwritten being at a distance so as makes ill convenient for us to attend to the settlement we therefore have thought to appoint Benjamin Dowell our attorney in fact and every payment made to him shall be as obligatory as if made to us.Given under our hands and seals this 10th day of October 1810.'"
This document is signed "Retherford Coffey and Martin Gryder."
