Your information is correct. John T. Coffee received a commission of Colonel in the Confederate army from General Hindman in Arkansas. In the spring of 1861, Coffee received a letter from President Lincoln asking him to raise a regiment of Union troops in SW Missouri. He burned the letter and raised a regiment of Confederate cavalry instead. The Arkansas company was a part of Coffee's original Missouri regiment. The Arkansas company did not reach Coffee's regiment of Missouri cavalryin time to take partin the Battle of Lone Jack Missouri.The Arkansas companywassent to Missouri in mid-1862by General Hindman in order to assist Coffee in the completion of his regiment of Missouri Confederate cavalry. It arrived at Camp Coffee in September of 1862 in time to take part in the Battle of Newtonia Missouri.
