I am trying to sort something out; maybe you can help me.
In Volume II of the Oyster Bay Town Records on pages 27 & 28 there is a document in which
"...I Nicholas Simkins of Muskeeto Cove in ye Bound of Oysterbay in queens County...Sell...unto William Ffrost...my whole Share or portion of & in yet Certaine Saw Mill, Scituate & Being at Muskeeto Cove aforesd Toether wth my Share and portion of ye Steams, Rivers ponds, Dames to ye Sd Saw Mill...ye Thirteenth Day of may in ye year of our Lord one thousand Six hundred Ninety five...Signed Sealed & dd: In presence of us Martha Coles The marke X of Elizabeth Weekes John Newman John Townsend the marke of Thomas Allen Nicholas Simkins."
"Day & Date above written Nicholas Simkins Came before me one of their Majesties Justices of ye peace for Queens County & acknowledged this above written Deed to be his free & Voluntary Act & Deed Nathaneil Coles."
My question is:Do you know who the Marth Coles is?Is she the wife of Nathaniel Coles?Do you know how they were related to the Weekes?
Background:I am actually researching Elizabeth Weekes.Elizabeth is often listed as the wife of Samuel Weeks but I accept the theory that Elizabeth was actually the wife of Joseph Weekes, Samuel's brother.I believe Samuel was married to Elizabeth's sister...Anyway, I am trying to understand this document because Elizabeth signed her X mark in 1695 and according to online info Samuel had moved to Cedar Swamp in 1687.I think this document helps establish that Elizabeth was married to Joseph.
