Hallo everybody,
My name is Piero Colla, I'm from Bologna (Italy) and my grand-father's family was from Lombardia, in northern Italy.
In Italy, as a name, Colla (which means "glue") is most frequent in the region of Milan, north of the river Po, as well as in Piemonte (north-western Italy) and northern Emilia (Parma, Piacenza).
A noble branch of the family is recorded in the State of Milan in XVI century, with well-known writers and churchmen. In Modern history, there are some famous "Colla's" in Milano area, especially the ones running since last century a well-known muppet's theatre.
The french family name Colas, in southern france, seem to have the same origin.Otherwise, I wonder if the gaelic "Colla" name (Irland, Scotland, Belgium) has really a common root with my family name, or it just happens to sound like.
Ciao
Piero
