GA Collis-Wheeler connection
In a March 23, 1906 Atlanta Constitution article a John Collis is said to be very ill in the hospital. It goes on to say his former wife, Willie(Wheeler), whom he had divorced two years earlier, had written a threatening
letter to his current wife,Ludie (Anderson). The first Mrs. Collis was being "held in the tower", unable to post bond. There is an obituary June 6, 1906,for John Collis, age 31, who died at Grady hospital of meningitis on June 4, 1906.
Several years later, May 8, 1910, a Willie Collis is implicated in a different murder plot, and there is reference to the fact that she had previously been charged with a killing. This Willie Collis is said to have an alias of Willie Standford.
I am searching for a connection to my grandmother, born Willie May Wheeler in Newton County GA about 1879. Her parents were Sandford and Sarah (Moss) Wheeler. There were Collis families in Newton County also. Family stories always said this Granny was a very colorful character!
Any help appreciated.
