Roy: I don't know a whole lot about the Columbus family, but one tidbit I do have might fit in to your bailiwick.
The National Intelligencer newspaper of Washington, D.C., for 9 NOV 1842, announces the marriage: Francis King to Josephine Sardoe Columbus, daughter of Charles Columbus, all of this city, were married Feb. 6, 1842, by the Rev. Mr. Hawley.
Rev. Hawley was a minister at St. John's Church in Washington.
In following census records I have concluded that Francis King was actually Jacob Francis King, and he and Josephine were buried in Glenwood cemetery in Washington, D.C.
Another link is that on the 1870 census for Washington, D.C., is shown that although Mrs. Josephine King was born in Virginia, her father is of foreign birth. The 1880 census for Washington shows Josephine King, married as head of household, with father born in Italy.
What is your source for your family grouping of Charles Columbus?
