Norman Lee Colwell's WWI and WWII draft cards show he was born Aug 18, 1891 in Lawsonham, Clarion County, PA. The 1900 census of Armstrong County, PA shows Norman L., born Aug 1891 as the grandson of Frank and Eliza. Also living with them is their daughter Mary A. The 1870 census shows Frank and Eliza living in Clarion County.
At this link it shows a Mary Amanda Colwell, daughter of Franklin and Eliza. She was married to George Crissman. Interestingly the 1910 census lists Norman as the brother-in-law of George Crisman. His wife was Amanda and they were married 8 years. I'll bet the brother-in-law Norman was really his step-son: http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=thc_01&id=I00756http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=thc_01&id=I00756
Conrad may have been Norman's father but his last name was probably something else. I suggest getting Norman's death certificate and obituary. If that doesn't help there are only a few other things to try. The first would be to find a baptismal record for Norman. With luck it will list the father's name. Check with the Clarion County Historical Society to see if they can help you. The second would be to check with the Clarion County Prothonotary Office for a record of bastardy (I think that's what they called it back then). It was basically similar to a child support claim today. It wasn't done very often and the records aren't always easy to find, but it should give positive proof of who his father was.
