Robert Compere/Compary
My great-great grandfather was Robert Compere/Compary, b. ca. 1830 in France and married in 1852, Miller Co., MO, to Rebecca Allen. Family records say he served in the Confederacy during the Civil War, was captured and released from a prison in So. IL, after signing an amnesty oath. He returned to Taney Co., MO, but conditions there made them decide to go to TX. He and four other men were killed by Indians while on a cattle drive, near San Angelo, and buried on the side of a creek. His widow and six children returned to Taney Co., MO.
So far, I've not been able to find any records for him, other than a marriage record and the 1860 census.
