Joseph Kanatzer of Fentres b. 1806 NC
My 3rd great grandfather was named Joseph KANATZER.He was born in North Carolina, and lived many years of his adult life in Franklin and Miller counties of Missouri. His wife's name was Elizabeth, born in TN between 1807 and 1815.The couple most likely married in a Tennessee county about 1827.We have never been able to find where he fits in the known tree of York Co., PA Kanatzers/Knortzers.
Now in the past week I have determined Elizabeth's maiden name, which is GENTRY.That should help us find the TN county where the couple married. I have always suspected that FENTREE Co. TN was a "countyinterest."Upon checking the 1830 census of FENTRESS Co. I find that on Ancestry image 11 or 32 we find Nicholas CONATSER (age 80-89).On the same page/image we find Jesse GENTRY (born 1800-1810) and what appears to be Henry GENTRY (age 15-19). William GENTRY is on Image 18 and three CONATSER families on Image 5 of 32.
This strongly suggests that my Joseph KANATZER (1806-1878) is from Fentress County and is possibly a grandson of the old man Nicholas Conatser, a neighbor of GENTRY families.
I have never been able to find Joseph in the 1830 census; he would have been about 24 and have a wife and one or two children both b. TN.
If anyone can provide some informaation on this scenario I would sure appreciate it.Where does Joseph fit in this Fentree county family?== Gary Murrell ==
