ThoughI live in Alabama, I'm actually an Indiana/Iowa Condra.Richard CondrafromChesterfield Co., Va.would be my 5th ggfather.
Iguess I shouldn't be surprised that Tn. Condrasmarried Cherokees.[My mother is of that East Tn. stock. My great-grandmother McDonald was at least an eighth.her colorized wedding portrait from the 1880s depicts a young girl with porcelain skin and sandy red hair, while her photos late in life (1940s)depict someone who is visibly Indian--my mother had auburn hair, freckles, and dark eyes]
Per Manx antiquarian J.J. Kneen, a c.17thcentury family on Mann called Mac'l ony contracted their name to the forms Looney and Lewney.Looney is Irish as well. Most Manx names are localized equivalents to names found in Ireland or the Hebrides.
Looney suffers fromits own "mediterranean confusion".The name Luna is found here and there in Tn., and "looks Spanish", but is simply a variant of Looney.
