Ralph, Thank you very much for this post.I believe that my line had to descend from William especially since I found this photograph of my uncle Benjamin Woodford Condray. He died when I was pretty young and I had forgotten how he looked.John Woodford Condray, my grandfather had six sons and five daughters. The oldest, Aaron, born 1893, was named for my grandmother's brother who had died in 1888.The other sons, William Israel, Charles Eugene,Durwood Belmont, and Guy Warren were very small men.In doing some Pendergrass research I have determined that the men of very small statue inherited this from the Pendergrass family but Benjamin Woodford was a big man, dark complexion, and black hair.Everyone else was very fair with light hair. You will notice the names of William, Israel, Charles, and Benjamin are also Condray names.I have even seen an Aaron Condray.
In the 1900, census I found in Alabama another Alonzo Condray with a wife named Nora.My mother's name was Nora.
I hired John Wilson to do some research for me because I could never find Lester Condry in any census records.John found him two times in a county or state census.Once as Sterling and once as Lester.Alonzo was in the household along with two girls, Diana and Jane and his wife Martha. On both census records Sterling Lester said that he was born in Virginia and from the age given it had to be c 1811.
I am thinking along the line that Sterling Lester descended from one of William's sons as my grandfather had a brother named Sterling Stephen and Sterling and Stephen were sons of William. My grandfather also had a sister named Ellen Rhoda and Rhoda is a name used in this line of Condrays.
To sum up what I think, I am looking for a descendant of William that was born 1780 -1790.This would be the father of Sterling Lester.Do you have any descendants of William that would fall into this birth period?
