My 3rd great grandmother Elizabeth (Conkle) Myers appears on the 1850 census of Washington Co., Pa. as 83 years old, born in Pennsylvania.I had, however, wondered about that inasmuch as 1767 was when the family came from Germany, having received permission to leave Floersbach the prior year.
Confirmation that Elisabeth was indeed born in Pennsylvania is provided by the following entry in the churchbook of St. Michael's & Zion Lutheran Church, Philadelphia:
Catharina Elisabeth, daughter of Henrich & Anna Margretha Kunkel, born 9 Oct 1767.
(See John Humphreys' Philadelphia County Births, 1766-1789).
Elisabeth grew up in Washington County, Pennsylvania where she married John Myers, son of Stephen and Anna Maria Myers / Meyer.
In reference to her Philadelphia birth record, Catharina was clearly used merely as a baptismal name, because Henry & Margaret already had an older daughter Catharina, the one who died young, leaving the two Harsh boys motherless.
The record is still unclear as to where Henry and Margaret Kunkel/Conkle spent the next few years, since I have no record of the christening of their younger children.
I would welcome input from researchers who may have found traces of this family prior to their move to Washington County, Pa.
