Recently visited this old cemetery on Quail Road near Hampton for the first time since I found out about it. I located the grave of my gggrandmother, Mary Elizabeth Holloway Mitchell, her husband, Henry Mitchell, and her son John Manson Holloway.
Would like to know if anyone in the Conkle family has present day responsibility for the cemetery or knowledge of its history. The person who told me about the cemetery said that many tombstones have disappeared or been knocked overquite recently in the older parts. I noticed logging activity in the surrounding area and wondered if this cemetery would survive what will be the obvious development in the area. Since several other families are also there, wondered if something could be done now before it disappears like many old family cemeteries. The cemetery was so grown up (except for one fenced area) that you could not safely walk to the back areas.
Is there any person currently living who knows or is there a family history written which includes information about this cemetery and its family connections? Does anyone know why Henry and Mary Elizabeth Mitchell and several other Mitchells were buried there? (I think one of the Mitchells was married to a Mary Conkle.) I would appreciate any information. I would like to fence off their graves or do something to preserve their portion of the cemetery before it is too late if okay with the family.Thanks.
