I am trying to find out if there is a connection between my branch of Richardsons and the Conkling family.
My great grand uncle was Roscoe Conkling Richardson born 25 March 1880 in Casey Co.,Ky.He died 4th July 1952 in Lawton,Comanche Co.,Oklahoma.
His parents were Thomas Richardson,1850-1934 and Elizabeth (McAninch)Richardson 1853-1924.Both born in Casey Co.,Ky.
His grandparents were Reuben Richardson, born in 1802 in Claiborne Co.,TN.Died 1876 in Casey Co.,KY. and Rebecca (Wesley)Richardson born 1828 Casey Co.,Ky and died 1901 in Casey Co.,KY.
Roscoe Conkling was born in 1829 in Albany,NY,served in the US House of Representatives,1859-1865 and the US Senate,1867-1881.He died in 1888.
There is a tradition that my Richardsons were from Ireland but this does not appear to be the case at this point in my research. The family of Roscoe Conkling is said to have been from Ireland.
I am trying to find out if the lineage that I currently have for my Richardsons is correct. Why would a Kentucky family name their son after a New York Congressman? If the Richardsons were from Ireland as the Conklings may have been or if there is a relationship between the Conklings and Richardsons this would make more sense.
Any help will be appreciated. Greg George GGSAR@aol.com
