The other problem may be more certain. It relates to Geroge III who is the grandson mentioned in the will of George I, because his father George II was already dead.I think we've got the wrong guy. Let me tell you what I mean.
The George III that is shown by everyone has a birth date of 1761 according to his on deposition in Revolutionary War records. That date is as established a fact as you will get for back then. Based on the time of those war records, he died after 1838 (others may know exactly but I currently do not).
The George III that is mentioned in his grandfather's will of 1772 was born in 1756 based on Northumberland County, VA birth records. We believe that this is he because it lists his father as George and we see apparently his brother Patrick born in 1754, listing both George his father and Frances his mother. I believe that Frances was his mother based on the following: There was an estate settlement for a George Connolly in 1759 settled by a Frances Connolly in Lancaster County. We know from George I's will that George II was dead by 1770, so 1759 would make him dead before 1770. We know from George I's estate settlement that George III's guardian was Nicholas George. There was a will for a George Connolly in 1778 and probated in 1785 that was administered by a Nicholas George. This George Connolly's mother was Frances George. He had 3 sisters with last name George. Obviously this was the same George III in the will with his guardian (his step-father) settling his estate. The mention of his mother Frances links us back to the George II estate settlement in 1759.
Based on the above, George II was dead in 1759 before the supposed George III was born in 1761.So our supposed George III could not have been a son to the real George II.Also George III was dead in 1785 long before the supposed George III died after 1838.
Now the question remains - Who in the world does the 'old' George III descend from.I have no idea. But maybe others do.
We've got some bad information out there that needs to be cleared up.There is no reason for that. The answers are here and we must work through these issues and give out good information. If not, how will the next generation ever follow what we've done?!
