William Duane, now deceased, one of the pioneers, was born in Ireland, and came to America with his parents in the early fifties.After living in New York City a few years, they came to Winona county, in 1856, and located in Winona city, near Sugar Loaf.William worked at odd employment, and finally worked for the Laird, Norton Company several years.Some time after his marriage, he moved onto the farm of his father-in-law, Joseph Considine, in Warren township, and there they lived for a number of years.Later they moved to section twenty-five, Utica township, purchased 160 acres, and carried on general farming until his death June 9, 1907.
Mr. Duane was married to Catherine Considine, daugher of Joseph and Margaret (O'Dea) Considine.This union was blessed with four children.William, John, Thomas and Dennis are living.William lives in Warren township, across the road from the homestead.He married Annie Voughtman, and they have six children.Thomas lives on the home farm with his mother.He married Emma Kauphusman, and they have one son, Joseph B.Dennis lives in Rochester, Minn.He married Mary Stienbower.
