Is Contois a variation of Cotuan? If so, please read on:
I am a descendant of Jean-Baptiste Daoust and Julie Cotuan-dit-Latour, who were married 10/13/1823 at St-Joseph de Soulanges, Les Cedres, Soulanges, Quebec. Julie's parents were Pierre Cotuan and Marie-Louise Champeau. I am looking for ancestral, birth and death information for Marie-Louise Champeau and Jean-Baptiste Daoust. I am also in need of birth and death information for Julie Cotuan-dit-Latour, and any information on Alexandre Daoust (son of Jean-Baptiste and Julie). Alexandre was married to Adeline Obeline Seline Mainville on 1/16/1866 at Ste-Cecile, Valleyfield, Beauharnois. They are my gggrandparents.
Julie's brother, Pierre Cotuan, was married to Marguerite Knight. Marguerite's half-sister, Martha Amable Knight, was married to Augustin Daoust (married 2/3/1806 in Chateauguay). Both couples appear to have lived in or around the general vicinity of Soulanges and Beauharnois. Both men appeared as witnesses to key events for the Pitre family in St-Timothee.
I have some information that leads me to believe that Augustin had a brother named Jean-Baptiste. If this is correct, it seems very likely (given Augustin's marital connection to Julie's brother) that this is the Jean-Baptiste Daoust who was married to Julie Cotuan-dit-Latour.
Augustin Daoust was born 12/18/1777 at Pointe-Claire, Ile-de-Montreal, Quebec to Augustin Daoust and Angelique (Angele) Amable Sarrazin-dit-Depelteau, who were married 6/17/1777 at Lachine. My information, which has yet to be confirmed, shows that three boys named Jean-Baptiste were born to this couple: one born 12/17/1778 at Pointe-Claire, one born 11/10/1783 at Pointe-Claire, and one born 6/4/1794 at Ile-Perrot.
Further information that may be helpful:
Marguerite Knight's parents were Jacques James Knight and Susanne Amiotte-dit-Amelot-dit-Perraquier. Martha Amable Knight's parents were Jacques James Knight and Elizabeth Corvin or Cowin. The family name was spelled various ways in the parish register of St-Joseph de Soulanges, including Night and Naight.
I would greatly appreciate any information that confirms the information I have or can lead me to some answers. I am happy to share what I have.
