My gr-gr-grandfather was William C Googins. He was the son of Samuel Coolbroth, but raised by the Googins family.
From Census records for 1830 and Portland (Maine) City Directories dated 1831 I found that Samuel and wife Nancy had 3 boys (one aged 5-10 and two up to age 5). My gr-gr-grandfather was born 1833 so he is not one of the listed children.
Just a guess, but Nancy must have died because Samuel remarried in 1838. I can find all sorts of records on Samuel, but Nancy and those kids just vanished.
I have been trying to discover what happened to the 3 other siblings of Williams and read somewhere that one child went to live with a Mr. Coolidge.
The children most likely would have been born between 1824 and 1831.
Hope this rings a bell.
