From the book "North Carolina Land Grants in Tennessee", James Cooper is listed twice as owning land in "Carters Valley" on the north side of the Holston. At the time, this area was in Sullivan County but today, this land is in Hawkins Co TN
Then, from the book "Partial Census of Tennessee Taken From North Carolina Land Grants" there was the following information:
Grant #2972 was to John Cooper who received 400 acres of land in 1790 on "both sides of Cowpers Creek Waters of the Clear Fork" of Cumberland River
Grants #2979 and #2980 were to James Cooper one for 640 acres and the other for 600 acres. Both of these were in the same location as John Cooper's above, "on Cowpers Creek the waters of Cumberland River".Today this area is known as the Big South Fork of the Cumberland River and is located in the Fentress/Scott Counties area of Tennessee.
Anyone researching the above men?I'd love to hear from you.
