Charles Lester Cooper, 82, passed away Friday evening, July 25, 2014, at his home in the Ottway Community, Greene Co TN.
He was the operator of the family business, Ottway Milling. He was a member of Ottway United Methodist Church and loved animals and old cars.
Born July 30, 1931, he was a son of the late Charlie and Maggie Clark Cooper; and was preceded in death by three sisters, Jetta Lee Cooper, Marie Carter, and Margie Tate; and three brothers, Lettlous Cooper, James Cooper, and Ralph Cooper.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Josephine 'Toots' Cooper; one daughter, Linda Hayes and Gregory McLain; one grand- daughter and her husband, Christy and J.J. Collins; three great-grandchildren, Cooper, Grayson, and Landry Collins; three sisters-in-law, Mary Louise Cooper, Nancy Malone, and Louise Jeffers; several nieces and nephews, including five special nephews, Billy Tate, Jimmy Tate, Charles Day Jr., Michael Thompson, and Mike Cooper.
The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m., and 6 p.m. – 8 p.m., on Monday at Doughty-Stevens Funeral Home.
Funeral services will follow visitation at 8 p.m., Monday, July 28, 2014, in the funeral home chapel. The Rev. Donna Waddle and the Rev. Eddie Malone will officiate. Family and friends are asked to meet at Doughty-Stevens by 9 a.m., Tuesday, July 29, 2014, to go in procession to Union Cemetery in Newport for the 10 a.m. committal service. Active pallbearers will be Lynn Dearstone, Gary McLain, Ben Lousey, Rodney Wilcox, Randy Carter, and Douglas Carter. Honorary pallbearers will be his nephews, the men of Ottway U.M. Church, his neighbors, the nurses of the ICU at Takoma Regional Hospital, Dr. Dharmen Patel and his staff, Dr. Candy Overholt, Lori Grabner, and the staff of Amedisys Hospice.
