On 25 February 1764 an indenture was made between Lewis Reno and Howson Hooe, church wardens of the parish of Dettingen, in Prince William County on one part with WILLIAM COPPAGE of Hamilton Parish, Fauquier County of the second part. This indenture bound Marolen HAWLEY for the term of twenty one years to William COPPAGE. Marolen Hawley was to be taught the trade of cordwainer(shoemaker) and to be given ?? years of schooling.
I am hoping some member of the Coppage family might know of the mentioned Marolen Hawley and how he came to be a servant of the Coppage family.
My 4gr-gf was Francis Marion Hawley, b. 18 Dec 1762 in the Stafford/Prince William County area and in 20+ years I have been unable to make any progress in determining the parentage of Francis Hawley and thought I would explore the Marolen Hawley connection to the Coppage family as Marolen could be a phonetic mis-spelling of Marion.
Any crumb of information will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
