John Yoast was my Great Uncle; brother of Mary Jane Yoast. He had previously server in the Confederate Army, Duff's Partisan Rangers; he was only in the Union Army the last few months of the War.He died @ Ft. Brown Hospital after the War ended & was buried @ the Ft. but Grave was Moved in 1909 to Alexanderia, La National Cemetery.
John's brothers also fought for the South & according to a story written by my Mother's 1st cousin in Mrs. Pickrell's book "Pioneer Womenin Texas" John's mother turned his picture to the wall & never spoke of him again.Story never mentions that he served in Conf. Unit first.I have tried to find if he was captured & given a choice of going to prison or fighting for the Union or deserted & joined the Union army.He joined in New Orleans. His wife, Nancy Crenshaw Corbell, filed for a widows pension in 1886 in Erath Co., TX.I do not find a record of her after this date.
Would like to hear from both of you ( Charles & Martha)as I was not luck enought to know any of my Grandparents or their relatives. Will be glad to exchange information.
