I'm new at this, but was just reading through some of your conversations with the others and thought i'd give you some of the information i have on the Corby's.
William Corby was born 1832 in the village of Chrishall, Essex England, the son of James and Harriet nee Adams, brother to Rebecca, George, James, Mary and Joseph.
William worked as an agricultural labourer and in 1850 married Susan Manning, daughter of William and Rebecca nee Wright. They had two sons Thomas and Joseph.
They sailed from London on 17th Febuary, 1855 aboard the ship "CONSTITUTION" arriving in Sydney 27th May, 1855.
William worked as a farm labourer in the Camden and Berrima district before coming to Cootamundra accompanied by the late Mr James Roberts in the year 1871. He was one of the earliest pioneering settlers in the area and he selected "Rose Farm" on the Berthong Road 4 miles from Cootamundra. (This property is now known as "Dinyah" and is owned by the McClintock family).
William and susan had 8 children in Australia. Susan died 5/4/1877, 46 years. Twelve months later in 1878 William married his sister-in-law, MAry Ann Gilmour nee Manning, widow of Alexander Gilmour.
William and Mary Ann had two sons, Arthur William James and Sidney Herbert.
William died in Cootamundra 2/8/1909 aged 77 years. Mary Ann Died in Cootamundra 22/1/1921 aged 83 years.
William and both his wives are buried in the family plot in the Church of England portion of Cootamundra Cemetery.
