Hi Kellie,
Thanks for the information about your family tree that you posted for me.I still can't fill in your tree enough to say for sure just how we are related, but it would be 3rd or 4th cousins, 2 or 3 times removed. And, our relationship would not really show up by you doing just the mtDNA test(s) as I had hoped. It would take "Family Finder" test to test our relationship.
The cost of the "Family Finder" dna test is currently $289.00.(And, I would have to add that test to those I've already taken.I've been waiting for the price to come down, but I'd go ahead if you decide you want to do it now.)
Moreover, the fact that we are not more closely related would mean there would be a bigger "margin of error" in the results.I think the results would be very interesting to study, and there is a good chance that each of us would learn of other potential cousins from the results.
You could add an mtDNA test to the "Family Finder" for as little as $10.00 just now because there is a special with that. You can also add a more complete mtDNA test for still more money.

for more information.I'd also suggest you consider joining some group for a possible discount.A great one for you to explore (in my judgment) is the "Cumberland Gap" mtDNA project. The leader of that group, Roberta Estes, is an excellent resource, and it's one of the largest groups in existance. To belong to the group, you only need to have one of your many ancestors come through the Cumberland Gap on their way west.Technically, it's for people who had ancestors who settled in one of the Cumberland Gap Counties for at least a period of time.
Whether you decide to go ahead with DNA testing now, later, or not at all, I'd still like to continue our correspondance until we fill in the relatives between ourselves and know just how we are related.
Final item for now:I do have a copy of the Aute Richards book. It's been very interesting to examine. In fact, I found my name in it on p. 31.On p. 2, the author gives credit for some information in Mr. A. A. Barnes (my "Uncle Lon") whom I knew quite well when growing up.In fact, I stayed at his home (at the age of 1) the night my younger brother, Don, was born in 1932.
