I'd be interested to hear from any Cormacks who can trace their history back to County Mayo, Eire in the 19th century. My great grandfather, Antony Cormack, left the family farm in Mayo at the end of the 19th century and settled in Northumberland.
Does anyone know if the family farm is still there?
I'm also led to believe that the name is translated as 'chariot warrior/lad' in Gaelic as other people on the message board have suggested.
One other query I have is can any body give weight to a story I've heard that a man named Cormack founded the town of Scarborough,Yorkshire roughly one thousand years ago. It's only been mentioned to me once and I've never seen anything written about it.
