Joe Clark Cornwell, 87, of Arlie Waddell Lane, Greeneville,
Greene Co TN, died Saturday, February 6, 2010, at the
Veterans Affairs Medical Center at Mountain Home, Johnson
City, Washington Co TN.
He was employed by Interstate Vending, then after retirement,
returned to farming.
His family said Mr. Cornwell served proudly in the U.S.
He served three years during World War II and was a
lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans and
Veterans of Foreign Wars, Andrew Johnson Post No. 1990.
Born May 18, 1922, he was the son of the late Arlie Scott
and Ona Crum Cornwell; and was preceded in death by a
brother, Howard Lee Cornwell; and a sister, Viola Ricker.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Waddell Cornwell; one son
and daughter-in-law, Bill and Linda Brooks Cornwell of
Greeneville, TN; one daughter and son-in-law, Gayle and
Buck White of Greeneville, TN; six grandchildren and their
spouses, Ron Cornwell of Knoxville, TN, Dr. Kevin and
Tonya Cornwell of Jonesborough, TN, and Denise and Greg
Fillers, Chad and Laura White, Sarah and Alex Chesnut, and
Charles Derry, all of Greeneville, TN; four great-grand-
children, Lindsey Derry, Kayla Derry, Benjamin Derry, and
Abigail Chesnut, all of Greeneville, TN; a sister and
brother-in-law, Betty and Marion Derey; his sisters-in-law
and brothers-in-law, Harold Glen and Glenna Waddell, and
Carl and Deloris Ricker, all of Greeneville, TN, Verlie
Waddell Collins of Cleveland, OH, and Sue Leonard Waddell
of Dayton, OH; several nieces and nephews; and a special
friend of the family, Jill Reid of Knoxville, TN, who is
Ron Cornwell's fiancée.
Friends may call anytime after 2 p.m., Monday, February 8,
2010, at Kiser-Rose Hill Funeral Home. The Rev. Paul Cobb
will officiate. Pallbearers will be Mr. Cornwell's grand-
sons and brother-in-law, Ron Cornwell, Kevin Cornwell,
Chad White, Charles Derry, Alex Chesnut, Greg Fillers, and
Harold Glen Waddell.
A private graveside service will be held in GreeneLawn
