I am seeking more information on the heritage and family of this couple who are my Grt Grt Grandparents. They were farm labourers around the Dumfriesshie region.George was born at Kirkmichael and married Janet Fisher born at Morten. The family of George Corrie/Currie m.Janet Fisher is as I see it, as follows:- Janet m.Thomas Johnstone of "Slongaber" farm b.1826 d.1891 Jane (spinster) b.1827 d.1905 Then Charles or Henrietta (Charles - Canada) Sarah b.1830/1 Agnes b.1833/4 (m.Lorimer??) Then Henrietta or Charles (Henrietta d. early teens) Elizabeth b.1838/9 m.John Duff John Fisher b.1841/2 d.1915 m.Elizabeth Thorburn (my Grt Grandparents) James b.1842/3 George b.1843/4 (USA) d.young in life. There may also be a Jean? Most of their children were born at Closeburn 18km north of Dumfries.Later they moved to #9 Whitestanes just south of the Forest of Au in northern Dumfriesshire.George and Janet are interred in the Terregles cemetery just outside NW of Dumfries city.George's parents were James (a weaver) m. Jane (nee Lockerby) abt 1790 and George had a brother James Corrie b.abt 1791.There appears to have been a name change with these families during their lifetime.George was born a Corrie and died legally as a Corrie but his headstone has Currie and his wife Janet and all their children were Curries.I am interested in anyone helping with information on this or any of these families.Best wishes, George Currie - Methven, New Zealand.
