Not sure why I did not reply to your message. Have we perhaps been in touch previously by direct email?
George Cossar, Vintner of Dunse was related to my ancestors who were farmers/horse dealers of Dunse & Edrom. We will be distantly related (about 7 generations back), but I don't recall where.
How I know this is that a 2nd cousin of mine had the Scots Ancestry Society do some research for her many years ago and when she swapped the results with a Cossar (I forget his first name) 'up north' (Auckland or further north), they discovered he had used the same organisation and their results showed this connection.
My great grandfather was George James Miller Cossar, son of Thomas Cossar & Mary Miller, and grandson of Walter Cossar & Isabella Cockburn and great grandson of Walter Cossar & Ann Bruntfield (Broomfield). GJM Cossar came to NZ C1863 and married at Lyttelton in 1864.
we always believed that these two branches of the Berwickshire Cossar family made up the bulk of the Cossar clan living in NZ from the early days of NZ settlement, although there others have since arrived, including one that settled in Dunedin and another that came from Lanarkshire via Australia. We also have relatives in Australia as one of the female line married a Hood and they settled there. As I recall they had a son killed in WWI.
Somewhere in my collection I have a copy of the research undertaken for my 2nd cousin and photos I took at the Dunse Kirkyard. I'm not certain, but may also have a copy of the tree for your George Cossar and Anne Mason.
I would be interested to know whether your Cossar ancestors are connected to the Cossar of Cossar & Hughes who were wine merchants in Auckland.
Please email me directly. I look forward to hearing from you.
