Lisa, I'm sorry but I couldn't help laughing when you said that now you have found James listed as born in three different states and then you said at the end "Hope this helps"! No wonder we go crazy trying to find family. I have found several who are listed at a different age in the ten year span, esp men! One only had 6 birthdays from 1860 to 1870! I've also seen the different places of birth, many of them on the head of the household. Perhaps the two worst things I've run across are 1. given name changes (as Elizabeth one time; Anne another time; A E a third time and you know it is the same family--just some differences in what is put down.and 2.the renaming of children in the same household or the comman idea of using the same name over and over generation after generation. I mean just how many Williams, James, Josephs have there been in the same family or with the same last name, kin or not in all the many years the "surname" has been around. Or how many Annes, Janes, Marys?
I believe the angriest I've ever gotten was to be told by some big shot researcher that my family didn't exist in the United State---all that were here were HIS family--Well, I guess that makes me kin to him because I personally know some that are either his or mine or ours. Know what I mean?
Another big shot researcher told me that g-grandfather and his sister and both of their parents couldn't have been from GA because he knew all about that family name in GA. I hope he looked closely when the 1880 census came out on LDS because BIG AS LIFE, there was my g-grandfather in one household and my g-aunt in another. He had GA all the way across; she had GA all the way across. I had to chuckle to myself on that one.
Well, I didn't mean to get into a tirade. How can I go from
laughter to anger? Don't mind me. It just gets frustrating.
I will try to do some checking also on the names you gave me, but I'm not sure I can figure it out for myself because Mary Catherine Cowee is the only one I know. I thought her parents might be a McAtee woman married to a Senaca Cowee (found on IGI on LDS, but when I checked with some McAtees online, I knew more about that than they did. The Senaca Cowees also had a dau named Mary.
Well many years have passed since they were born, I guess it may take many years before we find them!
Thanks for the help you are giving me, Lisa. I really appreciate it. I hope you find all you are searching. I keep an eye out for all the names you have given me. Sue
