Marilyn:I've never really investigated this family bit but now I think I am getting hooked!I never knew Frederick Coulon (my grandfather)He died when my father was @7 years old which would put his death around 1926.I always assumed that he (Fred) was from NY as that is where my dad was born (1919)."MY" Frederick Coulon had a butcher shop at the Fulton Market in NYC.This I know factually but also saw listed in a 1890 NY phone book.He was married and had children PRIOR to marrying my grandmother (Elizabeth Bannon).I have no idea who his first wife was.I got the impression that Frederick was considerably older than my grandmother. My grandmother was born in 1885....My father never was very open about discussing his father or his half-brothers.I think because there was such an age difference and obviously he barely knew his dad.
I have a photograph of Johnny Coulon and his wife Marie taken with my Dad (who looks about 3-5)in the photograph...Johnny looks in his early 30's???? (Those old photos are hard to decipher age-wise.)Also I have Johnny and Maries wedding photo signed"To Uncle Fred". Apparently, (?) Johnny Coulon's father was my grandfathers brother.
Anyway, I don't really have much to go on.I have always been curious as Coulon is not that common a name.
Also, there was another cousin of my dads whose last name was Boedecker....lived in Auburn, NY.
Let me know if any of this sounds remotely familar.
