I read your messages re: the DeCoursey, name change.I know of one line that changed their name, actually twice. In 1652/3, Henry, William and John Coursey immigrated to America. They had a brother James who lived in England and also their father Henry, either lived in England or Ireland. When they came to America they dropped the DE and they went by the name of Coursey. In 1677, their brother James immigrate to Talbot, Co., Maryland, and in1696, changed his name from Coursey to Corse. He had became a Quaker and I assume for the simplicity of the name and also, all of his brothers had died by 1695.He probably wanted to eschew all the fame that had been bestowed by his brothers, as they were all in high government positions in the Provincial and Colonial affairs of Maryland. If you know something about Quakers they were very reticent and unassuming people.James Corse, my 6 times great grandfather had 4 sons and one dau. They were James, Jr., William, John (my ancestor), Michael and Hannah.James, Sr. died in 1720 in Kent Co., Maryland.
It is very probable that Henry, Wiliam and John All lived in England or Ireland before immigrating to America in 1652/3.They had business dealings with Great Britain after their entry into America.
I have done a great deal of research on this family - for about the last 25 years. My Mother's name was Corse.
