Iva Marcile (Dersham) Covert Obit
ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Iva Marcile Covert, age 87, of Ann Arbor died Dec. 13, 2007, at Arbor Hospice-The Residence. Iva was born April 24, 1920 in Adrian, Mich., to the late Arthur C. and Mary E. (Naylor) Dersham. She was married on March 22, 1941, to William Austin Covert.
She was an Administrator at Ann Arbor Public Schools (Pioneer High School) and a five generation member at Zion Lutheran Church where she served on a multitude of committees over her lifetime. She loved to bake, and bake those cookies she did for everyone. She also so enjoyed cross country skiing, and sail boating with her husband as they where members of the Wayfare Boating Association. Her six grandchildren were the light of her life.
She is survived by her children, Mary Lou Covert Slater (John Schoettes) of Ann Arbor, Mich., and John Arthur (Sue) Covert of Saline, Mich.; grandchildren, Michael Austin Slater of Chelsea, Mich., Matthew Austin Slater of Manchester, Mich., Thomas John (Kim) Covert of Dexter and Dr. Douglas John (Juanita) Covert of Wauwatosa, Wis.; great-grandchildren, Scott Austin Slater, Ryan Austin Condon Slater, Andrew Thomas Covert, Elizabeth Helen Covert, Emily Kate Covert and Isabella Susan Covert; brothers, Arthur Dersham and Elwyn Dersham of Ann Arbor, Mich.; along with many nieces and cousins in Ann Arbor, Mich., Adrian, Mich., Attica, Ohio, and Marietta, Penn.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 17, 2007, at Zion Lutheran Church (1501 W. Liberty St., Ann Arbor, Mich. 48103). Pastor Barry Ludwig and Pastor David Bracklein will be officiating. A luncheon at the church will follow. A private interment will be at Forest Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Zion Lutheran Church General Memorial Fund. Arrangements are with Muehlig Funeral Chapel of Ann Arbor.
