Last year, I posted a request for anybody who knew of the history or destiny of my Grandfather, James William Greenslade born in Jersey in 1882 (tho' records show 1883). Since then I have traced the family back to Guernsey with Maindonal(d) and Brehaut ancestors dating back to the 13th century. However, I still have not found the fate of JWG.
His father, James Greenslade (b. 1856) and grandfather, William (b.?) are both shown as being born in England. His mother, Mary Anne Margaret Brehaut, was born 1857 in Guernsey and died at the age of 33. Mother, Mary Anne Margaret and siblings, Henrietta and Harold are buried in St John's Church cemetery in Guernsey.
Please read on.
The 1891 Census (reference 4701 031) shows a family called Cowling, living in Pollet St Peter Port, Guernsey:
JWG, son of James Greenslade, master builder, was taken in by the Cowling family after his mother died. We would like to trace their connection with the Greenslade family and , if possible, discover any leads to the fate of JWG, so that we can close the chapter.
