Reuben a fair, curly, almost white haired lad, was the first pioneer of Reach Township.He was the first contractor and builder in the vicinity of Port Perry (Scugog Village), and he built many of the most important buildings intown during his life."The North Ontario Observer" paper dated October 15, 1874 Obituary, says that Rueben came to Canada from the United States in 1806 and settled in the Bay of Quinte at 9 Years old with his mother and step-father.Reuben met Catherine More in Haldimand, ON. and married her a short time later.In May of 1821 with his wife, baby Elmore Stephen and a team of oxen,he cleared the forest from near Columbus (called English Corners then), Oshawa to Reach Township, almost Prince Albert, where he purchased 200 acres, later occupied by Messrs. F. & A. Graham.It was in Reach Twp. between Prince Albert (Dayton's Corners) and Manchester.It was a land of Missisaugas'Indians from the Ojibway Nation, wild animals, and forest.
