Hello Dorothy, I found some more information on Charles C. Wattson's Civil War History and thought you may be interested. Charles C. Wattson, Age 18 Residence: Decorah Nativity, Pennsylvania Enlisted Co. D.3rd Iowa Infantry on May 20, 1861 as Eigth Corporal. Mustered on June 8, 1861. Promoted to Third Corporal on Nov. 26, 1861. Promoted to Second Corporal on March 14, 1862. Wounded Severly on October 5, 1862 at the Battle of Hatchies River. Arm Amputated and dishcarged on Nov. 18, 1862 because of his wounds.
Hatchies River, October 4-5, 1862 Maj. Gen. Earl Van Dorn & Maj. Gen. Sterling Price (CS) Maj. Gen. Edward O.C. Ord & Maj. Stephen A. Hurlbut (US) Casulties:(US) 500(CS) 400
The Battle of Hatchies River was considered a Union Victory and can be studied on the internet.
