Thomas was the fifth son and child. The family moved to Hemel Hempstead, Hertford, England , when he was young. He was baptized into the Church in 1853 . At the age of 19, Thomas was called on a mission to Belfast, Ireland . He served about seven years, presiding for part of that time. He served from about 1856 to 1863 . He met his wife, Betsy , in Ireland . Betsy was baptized in 1857 . Thomas , Betsy , and her mother boarded the ship where Thomas and Betsy were married before it sailed. Their trip across the ocean and to the Valley brought them many experiences, and they were glad when they finally got to Salt Lake . They went to Nephi shortly after arriving. They lived in the Salt Creek Fort until Thomas built them a home. His occupation was making straw hats. Later he was in the bee business. He remained active in church and community, serving in many positions in both including politics. He died of "heart problems." Children: Betsy Ann , b. 25 Feb 1865 , Nephi, Juab, Utah .
