Oldest Known David Crenshaw in Virginia
There is an entry in Cavaliers and Pioneers, Nugent.
John Crenshaw and David Crenshaw in Patent Book No. 10 were
granted 300a in King William County, St John's Parish and located on S side of Polecat Swamp,
next below Wm Tyrrell about 2 miles below the fork of said Swamp. 12 Jul 1718.
Does anyone know which David Crenshaw this was. The "earliest" David Crenshaw I have definitively found was
David Crenshaw b. abt 1707, d. abt 1774, married Susanna Moore in1740. This David was the son of John Crenshaw Sr. b abt 1695 and Sarah Dabney. This John was the son of Thomas Crenshaw b. 1669 d. abt 1704 (Thomas was the Ferryman of Pamunkey Neck).
If the dates are even close to correct, this David (b. 1707) would seem to be too young to have received a land patent in 1718. So did John Sr possibly have a brother David (son of Thomas the Ferryman)??? Any help would be appreciated.
