Sorry--Neither a Rose nor a Susan.Having a hard time?Get in line ;-)John Crilly's father came to the U.S. from Ireland, but I don't even know his name or where in Ireland his family lived.John is my dead end.
Here, though, is some additional information about John written by his son, Daniel Francis Crilly:
About 75 years ago my father, John D. Crilly, and a man named Carson, (I cannot recall his full name), went to Bloomfield from Mercersberg, Franklin County, Pennsylvania. My father was born in Philadelphia, and later went to Mercersberg, where I was born.I understand that Bloomfield is now called New Bloomfield.
My father kept a hotel in Bloomfield, and also was a publisher of the weekly paper called the "Perry County Standard."During the time that my father kept his hotel, I remember that the barn in the rear of said hotel burned down, and my father risked his life in driving the horses, which, by the way, were saved from the fire.On that occasion, I, being about seven or eight years old, was carried out of the hotel, which was expected would burn down along with the barn, and was taken to the home of Mr. Carson. This is just a little incident that I recall.
Father owned, in addition to the weekly paper, a stage coach line, which ran to the different places and towns out of Bloomfield, there being no railroad at that time, and all the traveling done was by means of this stage coach or canal boats.
Some time later my father and his family, including myself, moved to Newport in the same county.Newport is on the canal and on the Junienta River. My father opened up another hotel in Newport, and also had a stage line as he had in Bloomfield.
