I posted the following a number of years ago. Since then I see there has been a lot of discussion concerning the father of my Alexander Crockett, relationship to Davy Crockett, etc. Can someone sort out for me just which Robert is indeed my ancestor's father and which line I should follow? Original post was:
Help! I'm finding discrepencies on several forums/sites. My ancestor, Samuel Nuckols, son of Lewis Nuckols and Mary Hughes Watkins, of Woodford Co., KY married Mary Crockett Carlyle 12-22-1813. Mary Crockett Carlyle was the daughter of Alexander and Margaret Campbell Crockett. (Alexander being the son of Robert Watkins Crockett and Margaret Alexander) I have found the information on the Crocketts at several sites, but I originally found Mary's parents listed in "The History of Woodford County." The problem comes when I find Alexander married to Margaret Campbell in one place and to a Mary Molly Drake with son John Drake Crockett at another. Is my information taken from "History of Woodford Co." indicating Alexander as son of Robert Watkins Crockett correct and has someone else mistakingly placed Alexander and Mary Drake as Robert Watkins Crockett's son and wife, or was Alexander married twice? One of Margaret Crockett Carlyle's sons was Alexander Crockett Carlyle - he, Mary, and others, children of George and Margaret Crockett Carlyle of Woodford Co. Any help with this clarification will be appreciated!
